Rf Pa Systems Technical Lead
RF PA Systems Technical Lead
The candidate will have a strong track record in the development of high power RF amplifiers with a good knowledge of high power PA device characteristics and the ability to relate fundamental theory to practical problems.
Key Responsibilities:
• Producing world class, leading edge, high power PA designs for market segments relevant to our clients business (e.g. cellular infrastructure, broadcast)
• Providing technical direction for RF PA development to showcase our clients technology and provide a reference point for customer product developments
• Guiding PA design partners device developments
• Supporting customer and partner PA developments
• Guiding and supporting RF activities in internal development programmes
The candidate is likely to have the following skills and experience:
• Understanding of High Power RF PA design and specification
• Very good at applying first principles; effectively thinking like a physicist
• Familiarity with telecoms infrastructure/broadcast systems including RF
• Understanding of modern modulation schemes (e.g. OFDM and WCDMA)
• Ability to create ground breaking designs from a blank sheet of paper
• Understanding of strengths and limitations of various PA device technologies (e.g. LDMOS, GaN, GaAs)
• A working knowledge “Load pull” techniques
• Ability to design low impedance distributed impedance matching networks
• Understand the nature of distortions produced by Bipolar & FET PA devices
• Good understanding of signal distortion mechanisms in both analogue and digital domains
• Extensive System level simulation experience (e.g. Simulink / Matlab, AWR VSS or similar)
• RF PA simulation using frequency and time domain simulation packages e.g. Microwave Office/SPICE
• Proven technical lead / systems architect on multiple projects
• Assessment of measured results, problem diagnosis / resolution and ability to relate to system models (i.e. closing the loop between simulation and measurement)
• Ideally have developed the above expertise in an applied research environment
• Good understanding of the commercial product development cycle and able to work at all stages within it
• Appreciation of manufacturing and test requirements and the implications of associated design constraints
