JOB DESCRIPTION
Europa Science, a publishing company based in Cambridge, is seeking an experienced web developer to take control of its previously-outsourced websites and online subscription system. The company operates five magazines and associated websites and email newsletters, all in the fields of science and technology.
General tasks include:
- Maintaining existing websites, improving functionality and appearance where necessary.
- Developing new websites for new magazines and spin-off projects, as appropriate.
- Maintaining and develop our subscription system
- Design and distribution of email newsletters, and other email communications (subs reminders etc)
- Design, development and implementation of Web 2.0 functionality
- Creation and distribution of digital (‘turning page’) editions using existing software
- Developing rich media opportunities on websites, in emails and in digital editions
- Overseeing implementation of reliable statistics packages, covering emails and websites
- Search engine optimisation

PERSON SPECIFICATION
You will have a minimum of three years’ experience as a web developer, possessing fully-operational skills in MySQL, PHP, HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Skills in Flash and Photoshop are preferable, but not essential, and design skills would be advantageous.
You will have knowledge or experience of developing web-based applications, e-commerce sites, and user community platforms. You will also demonstrate awareness of the wider business context into which your programming expertise feeds, such as creating attractive websites that are intuitive to use, and meet the needs of our customers – both readers and advertisers.
We currently use Dreamweaver to maintain our websites, though would consider other options if that is where your skills lay.
