Our client is seeking a Technical Author to work within their Documentation Group. This role is focussed on producing documentation to support their existing and future product line. The successful candidate will report to the Documentation Group Manager and will work closely with other members of the Documentation Group, Test, Development and Technical Support.
Principal responsibilities:
Writing, editing, and publishing technical documentation. You will produce Software Development Kit Instructions, Installation Notes, Technical Guides, and User manuals for host and embedded applications
Analysing and interpreting code generated by programmers
Planning and producing technical documentation for customers, end users, administrators and programmers
Testing documentation against applications
Conducting reviews of existing documentation
Publishing documentation in printed and online formats
Producing and converting documentation using standard templates
Essential skills and experience:
Experience in the software industry as a Technical Author
Ability to understand and interpret programmer's code and comments (C++)
Experience using the Doxygen documentation system
Experience of producing documentation for application interface's (host and/or embedded)
Educated to Degree level
Excellent planning and writing skills
Good communication skills. Able to work closely with others to understand and communicate technical issues
Knowledge of single-sourced documentation using FrameMaker and WebWorks to produce multi format distributions
Good analytical abilities
Good team member but able to work on own initiative
Desirable skills:
Awareness of Page Description Languages including the PostScript language, PDF and XPS
Knowledge of embedded devices
Knowledge of the publishing and printing industry and associated software
Knowledge of typical pre-press workflows for both graphic arts and digital print industries
Experience of Software development
Experience of working with multiple platforms (PC, Mac, UNIX, Linux)
Experience with RIPs and colour printers
