Careers Advisor
My client is one of the fastest growing companies who supports the public sector in the UK today. They are a leading provider of professional support services.
They have now asked us to recruit 2 Careers Advisers for the Offender Learning and Skills Services, delivering careers advice to offenders in prisons across the Suffolk Region.
The main purpose of the job is to:
• Deliver Career Information and Advice to clients within a cluster of prisons. This will include the use of career planning tools and agreeing with each client a personalised Action Plan that the individual will own.
• Adhere to the matrix quality standards in the delivery of career information and advice and be actively involved in the maintaining those standards with the full adviser team
• Complete and maintain any auditable records that are required for funding or contractual purposes, for example the client records and MIAP.
• Develop and maintain a robust referral network in custody and in the community.
• Maintain the professional delivery of the service by undertaking training as provided and as required, being responsible for your continuous professional development (CPD)
Main duties include:
• Contribute to the annual self assessment process against the matrix standards and the Ofsted common inspection framework, working against an annual improvement plan to deliver a quality service to clients.
• Contribute to the gathering, analysis and use of good labour market information for the benefit of action planning and moving clients closer to employment.
• Manage and maintain your career resources. You will be provided with an adviser resource toolkit that you will contribute to the development of through the adviser forums.
• Develop and maintain strong referral networks with delivery partners in custody and in the community.
• Attend our adviser forums to promote joint working, the meeting of quality standards and the sharing of best practice.
• Be responsible for maintaining your own continuous professional development (CPD) and record using and informing our annual training and development plan/programme. You will be expected to attend all mandatory training and achieve at least, preferably a level 4, NVQ in Advice and Guidance.
• Provide our career services at a time that meets client needs. This will typically by during the day but may in some cases be evenings and weekends.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience required:
• Trained or expected to achieve within the first 12 months of working a L3 Advice and Guidance (NVQ). Expected to progress to a L4 NVQ
• Skills in the provision of information and advice
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
• Evidence of a commitment to your own continuous professional development
• Self motivated and a good team worker
• Able to work flexibly and be responsive in the delivery of good quality career information and advice service to individuals in the community and in custody
• Ability to prioritise work and be innovative in the meeting of targets
• Proficient in the use of Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
• Able to travel between establishments
