Senior Scientist
To drive material performance improvements of Blue, White and Red, Green, polymers through fundamental understanding of degradation and photo-chemical properties. Use device performance results to further improve understanding of material property correlations to build on current design rules and propose optimisation of monomer/polymer formulations to obtain maximum device performance from new cores.
MAIN ACTIVITIES
Demonstrate a clear understanding of the bigger picture through proactive identification and implementation of fundamental work programs (monomer and polymer) across the sub-projects (BASICS, blue, white, red, green,).
Demonstrate ability to summarise top level research strategy to clearly present research results to internal and external customers at all levels.
Effectively communicate clearly prioritised / justified project resource requirements, use influencing skills to resolve potential resource barriers to ensure maximum research progress.
Propose, prepare, drive and monitor a number of high quality studies to improve lifetimes or understanding and ensure timely closure of studies to ensure effective capture transfer of information gathered to colleagues.
Clearly report findings and formulate recommendations within the research team.
o High quality technical contributions to discussions through effective communication within project meetings, during functional meetings, at video conferences, monthly site meetings, chemistry discussions, brainstorms, face to face meetings, H&S discussions and highlight new/relevant literatures to team members, indicating how our client may apply this to their work.
Proactively collect relevant material property data to develop new monomers with desirable physical properties.
High quality, accurate record keeping and documentation of work in studies and where appropriate formal capture of experimental in procedures and protocols.
Recommend areas to capture IP or know-how to project leaders and liaise appropriately with IP department to ensure timely follow up of potential IP filings.
Ensure excellent internal practical and process standards are maintained e.g. master class standards of polymer synthesis are maintained and material evaluation sheet contains correct polymer formulation and process information.
Responsibility for direct reports and junior members to ensure safe working practices are employed at all times, aligned with our clients H&S practices and policies.
Ensure a tidy and efficient laboratory environment to support best practise H&S Standards.
Identify and implement improvements to existing H&S practices.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED
PhD in Physical Organic Chemistry or equivalent research experience, with a proven track record of working in research and development in the high tech industry.
Knowledge of polymers and relevant analytical techniques.
Understands the value of Intellectual Property and the ability to manage Intellectual Property appropriately, including working with others to file invention disclosures in a timely fashion.
Competent user of Microsoft Office (including Excel, PowerPoint and Word).
Ability to coordinate important, complex projects and assignments within and across organisational boundaries, following through to completion.
Responds to change and has the ability to think laterally, creatively or innovatively to identify novel ways to drive progress in monomer and polymer development.
Strong verbal and written communication.
Results orientated and committed to the goals of the company.
Individual who is organised and methodical, with a can-do attitude and strong team-playing skills.
Appreciates and assimilates the views of others and is able to construct a business case / argument to put across their own view point.
Outlines scope of a project, gains buy-in from stakeholders and customers, identifying risks and communicates progress regularly to all participants.
