Blender 3d & Animation Workshop, All levels
If you don’t know much about 3D & CG graphics, then just Google the words. If you don’t know much about Blender software visit: www.blender.org
In few words, Blender is the powerful open source 3D design package behind movies such Elephant Dream & Big Buck Bunny and many other stunning 3D art etc. it’s powerful enough to compete with market giants such as 3D Max, Maya, XSI etc. whilst one of those will cost you in the region of £3,000 - £3,500 (that’s slightly above the going rate for arm & leg), Blender is actually available FREE for both personal and commercial use.
Despite my over 12 years experience as a 3D designer using 3D Max (and recently Maya), switching to Blender wasn’t as easy as switching from right-hand-drive to left-hand-drive! It took me over 2 years to go through online tutorials and books etc in order to master the package professionally and to make a complete migration to Blender.
WHAT I'M OFFERING HERE:
I would like to share my knowledge and experience with anyone who’s interested to learn Blender or the subject of 3D graphics and animation in general. Whether you are a student or a teacher who needs to produce a demo or an illustration or like myself, a professional 3D graphics designer who wants to migrate to Blender and save on the cost of other programmes.
I personally failed to find any introductory courses/workshops, which one can attend and interact with other likeminded people. My idea of running this workshop is to share a wealth of knowledge and skills not only in using the software but in the professional trade of 3D design itself.
I’m not going to teach you about every single button on the screen, because you can cheaply buy a book that will teach you that. The workshop I’m planning to run will be project based so you can learn immediately how to use the programme in creating a 3D scene.
What we going to learn and what level entirely depends on who’s going to sign up for it and what level and what areas they are interested in. being a general overview, modelling, animation etc. essentially I’m thinking of 6-8 weekend sessions for up to 4 hours/session – all of this can decided based on your requirement, circumstances and homework you are able to do.
COST:
The cost is £250/person for a group of 5 people. That’s £1,250 altogether. If a group of 4 or 3 they need to share the cost of £1,250 between them. For a group of 2 or if you are interested in a 1to1 training, I’m happy to do it for £1000.
Q: Why I’m charging for it?!
My initial goal is to share the skills and get people introduced to the subject. But on one hand I need to justify the time I’m going to take away from my work and family to do this as well as become committed to running the workshop professionally. On the other hand, if I say it’s free, there will be probably 100’s signing up and will not take it serious.
If you attend the first session and decide this is not for you, I’ll happily refund the money but for the rest of the group this may result in cancelling or postponing the training.
WHERE?
Note this is not an online training or remote learning thing. You’ll have to come and join us to learn and practice during the workshop. You’ll need to bring your own laptop and have Blender installed or you can even run it from a memory stick. Blender is free to download and install. If you have a problem just bring your laptop and I’ll help you get up and running. Where?! I have space for up to 5 people to come and work from my art studio in Soham. Alternatively, we can hire a hall in the library in Ely or Cambridge, depending on who is coming and where they are travelling from.
IMPORTANT NOTE AND DISCLAIMER:
Please, please, please… only respond to this ad if you are serious. You’ll have to pay me in cash when you turn up for the first workshop. If by the end of it you feel unsatisfied, you’ll have your money back before you go home. Note that this workshop will only introduce you to the subject of 3D and Blender and help you gain basic knowledge and skills as we’d agree beforehand. If you come to this training thinking that by the end you’ll recreate Toy Story or Finding Nemo… well it’s not impossible if you are so clever, but this is not the aim here.
That’s enough because I’m tired typing… contact me if you need more info. Thanks for looking :-)
