Raleigh Pioneer Jaguar Hybrid Commuter bike with 60cm iridescent purple/green frame, weighs approx 1kg heavier than a new Dawes Galaxy so not overly heavy considering its size!
This was put together for my son for him to get to college without wanting it to look anything great so it would likely go un-noticed & avoid theft. However since passing his driving test it has sat in the garage gathering dust since I last serviced it.
It has 18 gears operated by twist grips which work well & though the triple front & long cage rear derailleurs are nothing special they do the job they are designed to without fuss.
A brand new triple chainset has been put on, nothing of note but will do the job, pedals are crud claw types with ridges to stop your feet slipping (Not shown in picture) the chain is a KMC with power link to ease removal for cleaning. The bottom bracket is smooth & without lateral play having been completely cleaned out & regreased & adjusted.
Both wheels are Rigida alloy 700C & have little wear to the rims & hubs run smoothly for their type. Rear has quick release & is fitted with a semi knobbly tyre, the knobbles are starting to wear out so I’ll include a brand new tyre for you to fit as & when required (nothing wrong with the tyre fitted the new one is just an added bonus!)
Front is a bolt on axle, tyre is Halfords professional Kevlar and has hardly been used. Both tyres stay inflated to around 75psi no problem and are 700x37 so quite wide compared to say a racing bike but are excellent for comfort around town or light off road (towpaths/trials & the like)
Both wheels are used & not absolutely true they don’t catch on the brake pads though.
The brakes are standard Shimano Altus cantilevers & levers, when testing it with my 15.5 stone on board they pulled the bike to a stop in good time. Full length mudguards & a solid alloy pannier rack are fitted, the seatpost moves freely & has been regreased whilst the saddle is also in good condition.
Maximum height from floor to top of saddle is 41.5” though the seatpost isn’t particularly long, the riser bar & stem do give a more upright position though either fitting a longer seatpost or lower rise stem could easily change this position as required.
This would suit a taller person around 5ft 10 minimum to 6ft 4, probably taller if you put in a longer seatpost.
Bad points: The rear stay has a small amount of surface rust but other than that the paintwork is in excellent condition all round, The mudguard stays are tarnished but that is par for the course for galvanised steel unless of course you buy top end pannier racks with stainless steel ones, the bridge on the rear mudguard came loose & is affixed with wire but is solidly in place nonetheless. This is a no-nonsense get around bike that should serve you well for the winter months, sure it’s not the prettiest thing you’ll see but functions well all the same.
Collection is preferred from Letchworth & we can collect/meet you at the train station if required. I will however also offer personal delivery to your door/place of work, this would be at 25p per mile covered & I’ll drive up to a 100 mile round trip of Letchworth.
